For most of us, sifting through these areas requires a good chat with an advisor that has direct industry experience. Not only the accreditations - you also need to understand the commercial requirements and expectations besides.
Working on revolutionary new technology really is electrifying. You personally play your part in creating a future for us all. Computing technology and interaction through the internet is going to radically shape the way we live our lives in the future; incredibly so.
Incomes in IT are not a problem also - the income on average in the UK for the usual IT employee is significantly better than remuneration packages in other sectors. It’s a good bet you’ll bring in a whole lot more than you’d typically expect to bring in elsewhere. Apparently there’s no easing up for IT growth in the United Kingdom. The market continues to grow quickly, and we don’t have anywhere near enough qualified skilled IT professionals to fill current job vacancies, so it’s not likely that there’ll be any kind of easing off for decades to come.
Now, why should we consider commercial certification and not more traditional academic qualifications obtained from the state educational establishments? With a growing demand for specific technological expertise, the IT sector has been required to move to the specialised core-skills learning that can only be obtained from the actual vendors - namely companies such as Microsoft, CompTIA, CISCO and Adobe. This often comes in at a fraction of the cost and time. They do this through concentrating on the particular skills that are needed (along with a relevant amount of related knowledge,) rather than going into the heightened depths of background ‘extras’ that computer Science Degrees often do (because the syllabus is so wide).
It’s a bit like the TV advert: ‘It does what it says on the tin’. The company just needs to know what they’re looking for, and then advertise for someone with the specific certification. They’ll know then that all applicants can do what they need.
Students will sometimes miss checking on something that can make a profound difference to their results - the way their training provider breaks up the physical training materials, and into how many bits. Trainees may consider it sensible (when study may take one to three years for a full commercial certification,) that a training provider will issue the courseware in stages, as you pass each element. But: It’s not unusual for trainees to realise that their training company’s ’standard’ path of training isn’t ideal for them. They might find a different order of study is more expedient. Could it cause problems if you don’t get everything done at the pace they expect?
To avoid any potential future issues, most students now choose to insist that all study materials are sent immediately, and not in a piecemeal fashion. It’s then your own choice at what speed and in which order you’d like to work.
